Cell phone usage is a HUGE problem in many schools. It annoys the teacher in class and distract the students. But is it really bad?
In HIS (Hsinchu International School), phones are forbidden. It students get distracted easily, and we can not denial it. BUT, we never think of the possible good it could bring to us. Phones are first, one of the fastest way to get to another person. For example, in a huge school, there is no way you can contact another person within a few minutes. You always have to run around asking other peoples. But, if phones are allowed, these kind of things would never happen. Also, using phone is just a good habit in this technology century. We must get use to it, and not be outcast in this world of technology. Messages for example. We must get use to the concept of messaging other peoples, especially when its cheaper. It is going to help greatly even when you enter the business world.
So, I think we should allow phones in school.

I think a bigger question is about cell phone etiquette in general... My own rules for using my cell phone are:
(1) keep it on vibrate only when in public
(2) don't answer if my conversation would disrupt others
(3) ignore a call (which only I can "feel") if I'm already talking to someone (in person). An exception to this is if I'm expecting an important call. Then I excuse myself and walk away to answer it.
Basically, I find people who answer their phone as if no-one else existed pretty rude. My "rules" essentially guide me to showing respect to other people around me.
How do you think this should apply to schools? Do you think students today have the same concept of "respect" when it comes to cell phone usage? ...
